Transforming a traditional home
The owners of a beautiful old home in Sutton contacted FAIRCO looking to restore its traditional sash window. The old wooden sash windows were cold, decaying and featured no draught-proofing. In total, we carefully replaced 22 traditional sash windows, bringing warmth and security back into the home.
The job
We sent in six of our skilled experts to work on this restoration project. They completed the job in just three days, leaving the house spotless when they left. The owners of this home didn’t even need to paint the new windows as we made sure they matched the existing frames.
On this project, like with any other, we made sure to finish any windows that we started each day. We didn’t want the client to have to deal with draughts or a messy workspace.
The challenge
When it comes to old, wooden sash windows, there is usually a large gap around where the mechanism sits. This creates a space which lets in cold draughts. For this project in Sutton, our team of experts filled these voids with rock wool to prevent any future draughts. This step also reduced the noise pollution coming from the busy road outside the house.
We could have manufactured the windows using high-performance, sustainably sourced Accoya wood. But for this project, we used a more cost-effective option - uPVC.
uPVC is extremely durable and requires very little maintenance. Its colour doesn’t fade and this material was ideal for this restoration project, because it is also indistinguishable from genuine wood.
The result

The new sash windows don’t require painting and are 100% maintenance free. Plus, the outside of these sash windows can be easily cleaned from the inside.
